While we strive to support the function and aesthetics of staff and patient care areas, on some projects, the infrastructure is the star of the show. Mercy Springfield was facing the potential catastrophic loss of function of their entire surgical department and critical supporting spaces through reliance on a single air handling unit that was approaching 35 years of age. Our ability to partner with Mercy on dozens of successful projects on their Springfield campus made CJD the obvious choice as the lead consultant for this project. Additional design contracts, including structural engineering and architecture, were coordinated by our team. CJD teamed up with Mercy, Springfield Engineering Company, and many other key partners for the design and installation of a new custom air handling unit solution providing full redundancy to acommodate routine and unplanned maintenance. Minimization of downtime was crucial for the success of this project. Through careful design and coordination of installation efforts, we were able to limit planned downtime to 12 hours, and the changeover portion of the project was completed in less than 8 hours.
